What is AI Mode?
AI Mode is a separate search space for consumers to utilise. It works similarly to other AI chat tools such as Chat GPT or Perplexity. This is different from AI Overviews, which appear above the search results when conducting a Google search.
AI Mode is powered by Gemini, which is Google’s AI Model. AI Mode creates a “more immersive” experience for the user and provides a “deeper dive” into the topic in question.
There are several developments in the pipeline when it comes to AI Mode. It is believed that it will be able to purchase tickets and make transactions for us in the future.
For users, it is yet another avenue for finding information without visiting individual websites. Essentially, another AI tool that can do your research for you. For marketers and creators, it is another generative engine that we need to be aware of. Another addition to the AI SEO landscape.
Like all AI answers and information, it’s important to understand that the information given by the AI tool isn’t always correct or current. So, if you are using the information for something important, it’s best to find a verified website.
AI Mode and Search Traffic
Like all AI advancements that have happened in the past 2 years, we can expect to see an impact of AI Mode on our organic traffic.
When a consumer uses AI mode, they will often be asking questions and researching. The answer from AI Mode will be presented to the consumer, and they will have their answer without clicking through to a website – this is known as a 0-click search and has been increasing since ChatGPT gained popularity back in 2023.
Some industries have already seen organic traffic drop by up to 18% ⬇️ following the launch of AI Overviews earlier this year. As Google introduces AI Mode, yet another AI tool, we should expect to see a further decrease in web traffic.
Winning with Google’s AI Mode
So, how can you protect your traffic from AI Mode and other AI tools? Unfortunately, the answer is that you can’t. What you need to do instead is ensure that your website is fully optimised to be visible in AI platforms. This will mean your website and content are visible to your audience when they are using these platforms, keeping you in the running and ahead of the competition.
Something that you should also be working on is the User Experience of your website. With less traffic landing on your site to research or find information, you should expect to see an increase in conversion rate. Maximise this by ensuring you have clear and concise Call to Actions on all pages.
At Bubble, we are always researching and adapting to make sure we are up-to-date with the latest advancements in optimisation, whether that is for Search Engines or Generative Engines. LinkedIn Post
AI Mode launched in the UK last week – Here’s everything you need to know as a user and as a website owner.
AI Mode is a deeper dive into search through Google. It can be accessed within search results but is different to the recently launched AI Overviews. Where AI Overviews now appear on (almost) every search query, AI Mode is something that is selected as an option under the search bar and gives a conversational answer similar to other AI chat tools.
For users, AI Mode is another platform that you can search, get information and enjoy a more immersive and personal search experience. Of course, AI platforms tend to come with a warning along the lines of “responses may include mistakes”, so make sure you don’t take everything at face value.
For marketers, AI Mode is yet another searching platform that may be deterring your traffic. The consumer doesn’t need to click through to find what they are looking for. There have been reports of up to an 18% decrease in search traffic for websites in some industries with the increase in AI tool usage, and we can expect this to increase.
As with all SEO updates recently, it’s not about the website clicks. It’s about online visibility and adapting to this new era of search. It’s time to rethink your current SEO strategy to ensure you’re falling in line. Contact Bubble for more information.
