Instagram Posts and Search Engines: Optimise Your Posts for Wider Reach and More Success

If you run a business or professional Instagram page, you may have had a notification recently asking you to opt in to your posts being indexed by search engines. This could be a huge opportunity for your business, but can feel a little daunting if SEO is new to you.

At Bubble, we work across the board when it comes to digital marketing so we’re here to help! We can help you optimise your posts for a wider reach and more brand awareness.

Instagram and Search Engines – What’s Changed and How Will it Impact Your Business Account

For some accounts nothing has changed, indexing Instagram posts has been available in some countries for some accounts for a few years now. However, through July 2025 it has been rolled out into more countries and to all professional accounts. If you have had a notification informing you that “your public photos and videos may soon appear in search engine results” then this change is affecting you.

If your posts to become indexed, it will extend your reach and grow your brand awareness – your Instagram posts will be available for search engine users to view and not limited to your followers. This is a huge opportunity to grow your brand awareness and increase your reach

Your Strategy for Instagram Posts and Search Engine Indexing

For this change, you may want to consider your Instagram strategy with the knowledge that your content is now indexable. For the most part, search engines will only index rich content, so the longer posts with lots of explanation, useful images and unique content. So, if you want your posts and account indexed, you may need to make a few changes.

  1. Create Rich Content – make sure you content gives lots of detail, insights and information that people want to know.
  2. Unique Content with Added Value – regurgitating other people’s content won’t help you here. Like all search results, unique content which has added value provided by your brand will be prioritised and rank higher.
  3. Create Evergreen Content – where social media is usually about the Here and Now, with search engines content can rank for several years. Consider this within your content strategy. Use a mix of current events as well as topics that span longer time periods or elements that will remain relevant for years to come. Things like FAQs and Features and Benefits are great for this.
  4. Consider your Existing Posts – search engine indexing isn’t limited to new content. It’s a good idea to take a look at your existing posts and see if you can optimise them for search to maximise the topics to give yourself a head start.
  5. Cohesiveness – make sure your Instagram account (Bio, links, logo and media etc) is consistent and inline with your website so search engines can see the cohesiveness.
